Although falling demand pushed oil prices into negative territory in 2020, oil prices will rise in 2021 and accelerate the adoption of alternative units of power. Traditional OEMs in different regions are expanding their product portfolios to include battery-powered electric buses and fuel cells in the transit segment.

The market is witnessing strong collaborations between current vehicle manufacturers, suppliers and new players trying to enter the market. The relatively low total cost of owning electric buses, when compared to diesel buses, and the push to develop charging infrastructure will make electric buses a profitable option from 2024 to 2026.
